St Cuthbert's Society Alumni Association

On Saturday, April 20th a number of alumni, College staff (past and present), SCR members, friends and family gathered at 12 South Bailey to commemorate the lives of John and Joan Norton.
John Norton was Principal of St Cuthbert's Society from 1985 to 1990. He died on 6 January 2023, just over a year after his wife Joan passed away. John and Joan both played an active role at Cuth's well into their retirement as members of the Senior Common Room and as Fellows of The Society.
A lovely service was held after lunch in the dining hall, with a backdrop of pictures of Joan and John. Through the speeches we heard about the couple's love of food, and sharing their favourite restaurants and recipes. There were tails of John's time in the army - and Joan's delight when asked to help in little missions. We also heard many stories about how thoughtful, kind and loving John and Joan were to everyone who crossed their path.
John and Joan's daughters, Anne and Sue attended, and were each presented with art by previous artist in residence, Judy Hurst.
